This Sweet and Spicy Whipped Feta Dip with Hot Honey is a quick and flavorful appetizer combining creamy feta and cream cheese with a fiery honey-garlic drizzle. Perfect for entertaining or snacking, it blends tangy, sweet, and spicy notes in a smooth, whipped texture that’s easy to spread and pairs wonderfully with breads and fresh vegetables.

Ingredients

Dip Ingredients

  • 200 g feta cheese (use a good quality Greek block, not crumbled)
  • 100 g cream cheese (or ¾ cup thick Greek yogurt for a lighter version)
  • Zest of ½ lemon (optional, adds freshness)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (reserved for blending)
  • Black pepper to taste (optional)

Hot Honey Topping

  • 3 tbsp olive oil (divided into 2 tbsp for sautéing and 1 tbsp for blending)
  • 1 small garlic clove (finely chopped)
  • ½ tsp red chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Sauté Garlic and Chili Flakes: Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a small pan over medium-low heat. Add the finely chopped garlic and sauté just until fragrant, being careful not to let it brown to avoid bitterness.
  2. Release Chili Flavor: Add the red chili flakes to the pan and sauté for a few seconds to infuse the oil with their spicy flavor.
  3. Make Hot Honey Mixture: Turn off the heat, then stir in the honey and a pinch of salt. Allow this hot honey mixture to cool completely to prevent melting the cheese blend later.
  4. Whip the Cheeses: In a blender or food processor, combine the feta cheese, cream cheese (or Greek yogurt for a lighter dip), the remaining 1 tbsp olive oil, and lemon zest if using. Blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides as needed to ensure even texture.
  5. Season the Dip: Taste the whipped feta and season with black pepper if desired to enhance flavor.
  6. Spread the Dip: Transfer the whipped feta to a serving plate or small bowl. Use the back of a spoon to create swirls or a small well in the center for presenting the hot honey glaze effectively.
  7. Top with Hot Honey: Spoon the cooled chili-honey mixture over the whipped feta, allowing some of the glaze to drizzle into the swirls, adding a glossy, spicy-sweet finish.
  8. Serve: Serve immediately with your choice of dippers such as homemade mini baguette slices, store-bought baguette, pita chips, toasted crostini, or fresh vegetables for a crunchy contrast.

Notes

  • You can substitute cream cheese with thick Greek yogurt for a lighter version of the dip.
  • Adjust the red chili flakes to your preferred heat level.
  • Allow the hot honey mixture to cool fully to avoid melting the cheese mixture when combined.
  • This dip is best served fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; bring to room temperature before serving.
  • For added freshness, lemon zest is optional but highly recommended.
