This Steak Fried Rice recipe is a quick and delicious one-pan meal that combines tender, seared strip steak with fluffy day-old rice, scrambled eggs, and a mix of vibrant vegetables. Coated in a savory low-sodium soy sauce, it’s a perfect balance of hearty and healthy flavors that’s ready in just 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Proteins and Dairy

  • 4 tablespoons butter (divided)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 pound strip steak (extra fat removed and cubed)

Vegetables

  • 1 medium onion (finely diced)
  • 1 cup frozen vegetable blend (corn, peas, carrots)

Grains and Sauces

  • 784 grams day-old white rice (from about 2 cups uncooked sushi rice)
  • ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce

Other

  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons cooking oil

Instructions

  1. Scramble the Eggs: In a large wok over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Crack the eggs directly into the wok and scramble them gently until just cooked. Remove the scrambled eggs from the wok and set aside on a plate to keep warm.
  2. Cook the Steak: Season the cubed steak generously with salt and pepper. Reheat the same wok and add 2 teaspoons of cooking oil. When the oil is hot, add the steak cubes in a single layer. Sear the steak, turning occasionally, until browned and cooked through to your liking. Remove the steak from the wok and set aside on another plate.
  3. Sauté Onions and Vegetables: In the same wok, melt another tablespoon of butter. Add the finely diced onions and the frozen vegetable blend. Cook, stirring frequently, until the onions are translucent and the vegetables are softened and warmed through.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Return the cooked eggs and steak to the wok with the vegetables. Add the remaining butter. Toss everything together to incorporate and mix the flavors thoroughly.
  5. Add Rice and Soy Sauce: Add the day-old white rice to the wok. Drizzle the low-sodium soy sauce evenly over the rice and ingredients. Continue folding and stirring the mixture in the wok until the soy sauce is evenly distributed and the rice is well coated with a light brown color. Taste and add more soy sauce if desired to suit your preference.
  6. Serve: Once all ingredients are heated through and well mixed, remove the wok from heat. Serve the steak fried rice hot for a satisfying and flavorful meal.

Notes

  • Using day-old rice helps prevent clumping and results in better texture for fried rice.
  • You can substitute the strip steak with other cuts or proteins like chicken or tofu for variation.
  • Adjust soy sauce amount for saltiness according to your taste and dietary needs.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding minced garlic or ginger when sautéing onions.
  • This recipe can easily be doubled or halved depending on serving needs.
