A creamy and flavorful smoked salmon cheese ball that makes an elegant appetizer. Blending cream cheese with smoked salmon, tangy sour cream, and fresh herbs, then rolling it in crunchy pecans for a delightful texture contrast. Perfect for parties and gatherings, this easy-to-make cheese ball is ready in just 10 minutes and pairs wonderfully with crackers or vegetable slices.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 16 ounces cream cheese
  • 12 ounces smoked salmon (or regular salmon plus 1 teaspoon liquid smoke)
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1/2 cup red onion, finely diced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons lemon pepper seasoning

Coating

  • 1 cup pecans, roughly chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh herbs (chives, parsley, dill, etc), chopped

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Add the cream cheese, sour cream, smoked salmon, finely diced red onion, and lemon pepper seasoning into a mixing bowl.
  2. Mix Thoroughly: Use your hands or a stand mixer to blend all ingredients together until fully combined and smooth.
  3. Shape the Cheese Ball: Form the cheese mixture into a ball using your hands. If the mixture feels too soft to shape, chill it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to firm it up.
  4. Prepare Coating: Mix the roughly chopped pecans and fresh chopped herbs together and spread them evenly on a plate or cutting board.
  5. Coat the Cheese Ball: Roll the formed cheese ball in the pecan and herb mixture, pressing gently to cover the entire surface.
  6. Serve or Chill: Serve the cheese ball immediately with crackers or vegetable slices, or refrigerate until ready to serve. Chilling enhances the flavor and texture; it can be made a day ahead for best taste.

Notes

  • If you do not have smoked salmon, use regular salmon with 1 teaspoon of liquid smoke to mimic the flavor.
  • Chilling the cheese ball before shaping will make it easier to handle.
  • This cheese ball can be made up to 24 hours ahead, allowing flavors to meld and intensify.
  • Serve with your choice of crackers, toasted bread slices, or fresh vegetable sticks for a tasty appetizer.
