This easy and healthy chia seed jam recipe uses fresh berries, chia seeds, and a touch of maple syrup to create a naturally sweetened, nutrient-packed spread perfect for toast, yogurt, or desserts. Ready in just 15 minutes, this no-sugar-added jam harnesses the gel-forming properties of chia seeds for a quick and wholesome preserve.

Ingredients

Jam Ingredients

  • 3 cups Fresh Berries of choice (such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries)
  • ¼ cup Filtered Water
  • 1 tbsp Maple Syrup (or adjust to taste)
  • 2-3 tbsp Chia Seeds
  • Juice of ½ Lemon

Instructions

  1. Cook the Berries: Add the fresh berries, filtered water, and maple syrup to a nonstick saucepan. Place over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally. As you stir, mash some of the berries gently to help the mixture thicken as the berries break down.
  2. Add Chia Seeds: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the chia seeds thoroughly. Allow the mixture to sit for 5-10 minutes to let the chia seeds absorb the liquid and thicken the jam.
  3. Add Lemon Juice and Store: Stir in the juice of half a lemon to add brightness and balance the sweetness. Transfer the jam to a glass jar and let it cool completely. Store in the refrigerator for up to 7-14 days and use as desired.

Notes

  • You can customize the taste by choosing different berries or adjusting the maple syrup amount for sweetness.
  • Make sure to stir the jam occasionally during cooking to prevent sticking or burning.
  • For a smoother texture, mash berries more thoroughly or use a blender briefly before adding chia seeds.
  • This jam is naturally thickened by chia seeds, so no added pectin or sugar is necessary.
  • Refrigerate jam promptly and use within two weeks for best quality.
