Dehydrated strawberries are a delicious, healthy snack made by removing moisture from fresh strawberries using an air fryer, oven, or food dehydrator. This drying process concentrates the natural sweetness, enhancing the flavor and creating a chewy, leathery texture perfect for snacking or adding to cereals and baked goods.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh whole strawberries (washed and patted dry)

Instructions

  1. Preparation: Wash the strawberries thoroughly and pat them dry with a clean towel to remove excess moisture.
  2. Hull Strawberries: Remove the green leaves and stems from each strawberry to prepare them for slicing.
  3. Slice Evenly: Slice the strawberries evenly about 1/4 inch thick to ensure uniform drying.
  4. Pat Dry Slices: Lightly pat the strawberry slices with a paper towel or clean tea towel to absorb excess juice, which helps the drying process.
  5. Air Fryer Method: Preheat the air fryer to 180°F (82°C) or its lowest setting. Line the basket with air fryer-safe parchment paper. Arrange strawberry slices in a single layer without overlapping. Air fry for 1½ to 2 hours, flipping slices every 20-30 minutes and checking regularly after the first hour. If the parchment paper lifts due to airflow, remove it once the slices are no longer sticky and continue placing slices directly on the basket until dry and leathery.
  6. Oven Method: Place a wire rack on a baking sheet or line the sheet with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to its lowest setting, around 175°F (80°C). Arrange slices in a single layer on the rack or parchment. Dry in the oven for 2-3 hours, flipping every 30 minutes and checking after 2 hours until slices feel dry and leathery.
  7. Dehydrator Method: Place the slices on dehydrator trays in a single layer. Set the dehydrator to 135°F (57°C) and dehydrate for 6-8 hours, flipping or rotating trays as needed. Check after 4 hours for drying progress until slices feel dry and leathery.
  8. Storage: Once fully dried, store the dehydrated strawberries in a clean, sterilized airtight container kept in a cool, dark place to maintain freshness.
  9. Note on Variability: Drying times will vary based on slice thickness, strawberry juice content, and appliance settings. Adjust times accordingly for best results.
  10. Tip: Use parchment paper or a silicone mat to prevent sticking. Avoid aluminum foil as strawberries will stick to it.

Notes

  • Drying time varies based on slice thickness and appliance settings—monitor frequently.
  • Use parchment paper or silicone mats to prevent sticking; avoid aluminum foil.
  • If using an air fryer, remove parchment paper once slices are sufficiently dry to prevent it from lifting.
  • Store dehydrated strawberries in an airtight container in a cool, dark place.
