A flavorful and nutritious Hidden Veggie Pizza Sauce packed with finely chopped vegetables blended into a smooth tomato base. This versatile sauce enhances your homemade pizzas or serves as a delicious dip, offering a sneaky way to add extra veggies to your meals.

Ingredients

Vegetables and Aromatics

  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 ½ cups chopped vegetables (such as zucchini, carrot, bell pepper, onion, spinach, chopped small)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Tomato Base and Seasonings

  • 15 ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Heat oil and cook vegetables: Heat the olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the chopped vegetables and cook, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes or until they are softened, to bring out their natural sweetness and integrate flavors.
  2. Add garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds more, releasing its aroma without burning.
  3. Simmer with tomato sauce and herbs: Pour in the tomato sauce, then add Italian seasoning, dried basil, and salt. Bring the mixture to a boil, then cover and reduce heat to a low simmer. Let it simmer gently for 5 minutes to meld the flavors.
  4. Puree the sauce: Allow the sauce to cool slightly before transferring it to a blender or using an immersion blender directly in the pot. Puree until smooth to create a luscious, veggie-packed pizza sauce.
  5. Serve and enjoy: Use this sauce on homemade pizzas, or as a tasty dip for grilled cheese sandwiches, pizza bites, and more.
