This Greek Burger with Feta and Tzatziki is a delicious twist on the classic burger, combining lean ground beef with tangy feta cheese and aromatic oregano. Served with a refreshing homemade tzatziki sauce and fresh toppings, it’s a perfect Mediterranean-inspired meal ready in just 40 minutes.

Ingredients

For the Burgers

  • 1 pound 93% lean ground beef
  • 2 ounces feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons diced red onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated and divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Tzatziki Sauce

  • 6 ounces fat-free plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 cucumber, peeled and grated
  • 1 clove garlic, grated (remaining from above)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
  • Salt to taste

For Serving

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Sliced red onion
  • Lettuce leaves

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Burger Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, crumbled feta, dried oregano, diced red onion, half of the grated garlic, and black pepper. Gently mix with your hands until the ingredients are evenly incorporated without overworking the meat.
  2. Form Patties: Shape the mixture into four equal-sized patties, matching the diameter of your hamburger buns. Make sure the patties are slightly thicker at the edges with a small indentation in the center to help them cook evenly. Set aside to rest.
  3. Make the Tzatziki Sauce: Peel and grate the cucumber using the coarse side of a grater. In a small bowl, mix the fat-free Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, remaining grated garlic, and chopped fresh dill. Season with salt to taste. Cover the sauce and refrigerate until ready to serve to allow flavors to meld.
  4. Cook the Burgers: Preheat the grill to medium heat. Grill the patties for about 5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your preferred level of doneness. Alternatively, you can cook the patties on the stovetop in a pan over medium heat, cooking similarly for 5 minutes per side.
  5. Assemble and Serve: Place each cooked burger on a hamburger bun, then top with lettuce, sliced red onion, and a generous spoonful of the homemade tzatziki sauce. Serve immediately and enjoy your Greek-inspired meal.

Notes

  • For extra moisture, you can add a tablespoon of olive oil to the burger mixture if your beef is very lean.
  • If you prefer a thicker tzatziki, drain the grated cucumber in a paper towel to remove excess water before mixing.
  • Use fresh dill for the best flavor; dried dill can be substituted but reduce quantity to 1 teaspoon.
  • Ground turkey or lamb are great alternatives if you want to try different meats.
  • Adjust salt cautiously because feta cheese is already salty.
