Garlic Butter Broccoli is a simple, flavorful side dish featuring tender broccoli florets sautéed in olive oil and finished with rich butter and fragrant garlic. This quick recipe highlights the natural freshness of broccoli with a buttery, garlicky twist, perfect for pairing with any main course or enjoying on its own.

Ingredients

Vegetables

  • 6 cups broccoli florets (approximately 2-3 heads of broccoli)

Seasonings & Fats

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt, plus more to taste
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • Squeeze of lemon juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep: If using broccoli heads, cut the crowns off the stem and chop them into small, bite-sized florets to ensure even cooking.
  2. Sauté: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the broccoli florets along with ¼ teaspoon sea salt and a pinch of black pepper. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the broccoli starts to soften.
  3. Steam: Add 2 tablespoons of water to the skillet, cover it with a lid, and cook for 2-4 minutes more, until the broccoli turns tender and vibrant green.
  4. Season: Reduce the heat to low, add 2 tablespoons of butter and the minced garlic. Stir continuously and cook for about 1 minute until the garlic becomes fragrant and the butter is fully melted.
  5. Serve: Remove from heat and serve the broccoli warm. Optionally, squeeze fresh lemon juice over the top and adjust salt and pepper to taste for enhanced flavor.

Notes

  • Cut broccoli into uniform florets to ensure even cooking.

  • Adding the water and covering the pan steams the broccoli gently so it cooks through without burning.
  • The optional lemon juice brightens the flavor and adds a fresh finish.
  • Use fresh garlic for the best aroma and taste.
  • This recipe can be easily doubled or halved.
