These Easy Nutella Bars combine a rich Nutella cream layer with a buttery oat-flour crust, topped with chocolate chips for extra indulgence. Perfectly baked to create a chewy, chocolatey treat that’s simple to prepare and ideal for sharing.

Ingredients

Nutella Cream

  • ¾ cup Nutella
  • ½ cup heavy cream

Bar Base and Topping

  • ¾ cup butter, melted
  • ¾ cup brown sugar (lightly packed)
  • 1 cup rolled oats (not instant; pulse in food processor if large)
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • – 1½ cups mini dark or semi sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Prepare Pan and Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch (20 cm) square cake pan or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Make the Base Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, rolled oats, all purpose flour, salt, and baking soda. Stir until all ingredients are well incorporated into a uniform dough.
  3. Bake Base Layer: Place a little more than half of the dough mixture evenly on the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake this base layer in the preheated oven for 10 minutes to set and slightly firm it up.
  4. Prepare Nutella Cream: While the base bakes, pour the Nutella and heavy cream into a small pot. Place over low heat and whisk constantly until the mixture is smooth and evenly combined. Remove from heat and set aside.
  5. Add Toppings and Final Bake: Remove the partially baked base from the oven. Immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the hot base. Pour the Nutella cream mixture over the chocolate chips, then sprinkle the remaining dough on top. Return the pan to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, until the edges are slightly browned and the bars look set.
  6. Cool and Chill: Remove the pan from the oven and allow the bars to cool to room temperature. Cover with foil and refrigerate for approximately 2 hours or overnight to allow them to firm up.
  7. Cut and Serve: Once chilled, cut the bars into squares. Serve and enjoy this delicious, rich treat perfect for any occasion.

Notes

  • If your rolled oats are large, pulse them lightly in a food processor to avoid powdering but to help distribute better in the dough.
  • Using parchment paper makes removing the bars from the pan easier.
  • Refrigerating bars overnight firms them up, making cutting cleaner and enhancing texture.
  • Mini chocolate chips work best for even melting and distribution in the bars.
  • You can substitute semi-sweet for dark chocolate chips depending on your sweetness preference.
