This Easy Baked Cod Recipe offers a quick, flavorful way to prepare tender and flaky cod fillets seasoned with garlic, paprika, and herbs, then baked to perfection. Ready in just 15 minutes, it’s a healthy and delicious meal perfect for any night of the week.

Ingredients

Fish

  • 6 cod fillets (about 4 oz each)

Seasonings and Flavorings

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (or 2 teaspoons minced garlic cloves)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried parsley (or Italian seasoning)
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder

Other Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a baking pan or line it with parchment paper to ensure easy cleanup after baking.
  2. Prepare Cod Fillets: Pat the cod fillets dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture, helping the seasoning adhere better to the fish.
  3. Mix Seasonings: In a small bowl, combine the garlic powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, dried parsley, and onion powder thoroughly to create a balanced seasoning blend.
  4. Season the Fish: Brush each cod fillet evenly with the melted butter and drizzle with fresh lemon juice. Then sprinkle the seasoning mixture evenly over the fillets to cover each piece well.
  5. Bake the Cod: Arrange the seasoned fillets in the prepared baking dish. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork and an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) is reached. Note that thinner fillets may cook faster, around 5-6 minutes.
  6. Serve: Remove the cod from the oven and serve immediately with lemon wedges and optional fresh herbs like parsley for an extra burst of flavor.

Notes

  • Ensure your cod fillets are evenly sized for uniform cooking.
  • Do not overcook the fish to keep it moist and tender.
  • Fresh lemon juice enhances the flavor, but you can substitute with bottled lemon juice if needed.
  • If you prefer, swap dried parsley with Italian seasoning or fresh chopped parsley.
  • Use parchment paper to avoid sticking and make cleanup effortless.
