This recipe delivers the crispiest air fryer gnocchi, perfect as a savory appetizer, a crunchy salad topping, or a flavorful side dish. Using either shelf-stable, refrigerated, or frozen gnocchi varieties, these golden bites are seasoned with garlic powder, salt, pepper, and freshly grated parmesan, and air fried to perfection in just under 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Gnocchi

  • 1 lb gnocchi (shelf-stable, refrigerated, or frozen; regular, cauliflower, or sweet potato)

Seasonings and Oil

  • 1 – 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 – 3 tbsp freshly grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat: Heat your air fryer to 390°F (approximately 199°C) and lightly grease the basket with an olive oil spray to prevent sticking and ensure even crisping.
  2. Season: In a large mixing bowl, toss the gnocchi with extra-virgin olive oil, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and freshly grated parmesan until evenly coated. If you are using frozen gnocchi, there is no need to thaw before seasoning.
  3. Arrange: Place the seasoned gnocchi in a single layer inside the preheated air fryer basket. It is important to avoid overcrowding or overlapping pieces to achieve maximum crispiness on all sides.
  4. Air fry by type: For shelf-stable or refrigerated gnocchi, air fry for 11 to 14 minutes. For frozen gnocchi, air fry for 13 to 16 minutes. Shake the basket every 4 to 5 minutes to ensure the gnocchi cook evenly and turn golden and crispy without burning.
  5. Serve: Remove the gnocchi from the air fryer when the outsides are golden brown and crispy. Serve immediately, garnished with extra parmesan and fresh parsley if desired. They pair beautifully as a side dish, appetizer with marinara or pesto for dipping, or as a crunchy salad topping.

Notes

  • Do not thaw frozen gnocchi before air frying; cook straight from frozen for best texture.
  • Shaking the basket regularly during cooking promotes even crispness on all sides.
  • Adjust seasoning quantities to taste or dietary needs.
  • Use a single layer to ensure maximum crispness; cook in batches if necessary.
  • Gnocchi variations like cauliflower or sweet potato work well and may slightly alter cooking times.
