A hearty and satisfying dish featuring tender chicken breasts topped with savory cheese, sautéed mushrooms, onions, and a rich creamy sauce. A perfect combination of comfort and flavor.

Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

1 tablespoon olive oil

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon paprika

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)

1/2 cup sautéed mushrooms (optional)

1/2 cup sautéed onions (optional)

1/4 cup heavy cream (optional for a creamier sauce)

Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika on both sides.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts and cook for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown. The chicken doesn’t need to be fully cooked through, as it will finish cooking in the oven.
  4. If using, sauté the mushrooms and onions in a separate pan over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until tender.
  5. Once the chicken is browned, top each breast with sautéed mushrooms and onions (if using), then sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  7. Remove the skillet from the oven. For a richer sauce, drizzle with heavy cream if desired.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot.

Notes

Substitute boneless, skinless chicken thighs for a juicier and more flavorful option.

Feel free to experiment with different cheese options, such as mozzarella, Monterey Jack, or pepper jack for a spicy kick.

Add vegetables like bell peppers, spinach, or zucchini for extra flavor and nutrition.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave.

If making ahead, you can prepare and sear the chicken, then bake it when ready to serve.
