A homemade version of Taco Bell’s Chalupa Supreme featuring a crispy fried shell, seasoned ground beef, fresh toppings, and creamy sour cream—nostalgic, satisfying, and full of Tex-Mex flavor.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup milk

Vegetable oil (for frying)

1 lb ground beef (or chicken or black beans)

1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 teaspoon cumin

1 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon sugar

1 tablespoon flour

1/2 cup water

1 cup shredded cheddar, pepper jack, or Colby Jack cheese

1 cup shredded lettuce

1/2 cup diced tomatoes

1/2 cup sour cream

Taco sauce or salsa, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead briefly, divide into 6 pieces, and roll each into a 6-inch round disk.
  3. Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C). Fry each disk until golden, fold gently in half and fry until crisp and puffed.
  4. Brown ground beef (and onion if using) in a skillet. Drain fat.
  5. Add spices, flour, and water. Simmer until thick and flavorful.
  6. Fill each fried shell with meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and taco sauce or salsa.
  7. Serve immediately while shells are still warm and crisp.

Notes

Swap ground beef for shredded chicken, steak, or black beans for variation.

Top with jalapeños, guacamole, or cilantro for extra flavor.

Make dough ahead and refrigerate, but fry shells just before serving.

Use taco seasoning packet for convenience.

Reheat shells in oven to maintain crispness.
