A delicious Somali-style spaghetti sauce recipe with a unique twist that will leave you craving more. Perfect for a weekly family meal.

Ingredients

Main Spice Mix:

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Himalayan pink salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt-free seasoning blend (such as Mrs. Dash)
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper

Other Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 large potato, peeled and cubed
  • 2 (14 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons water, or to taste (Optional)
  • 1 (16 ounce) package angel hair pasta

Instructions

  1. Prepare Spice Mix: Combine cilantro and garlic in a food processor until finely chopped. Toast and grind cumin seeds, then mix with other spices.
  2. Cook Beef: Brown ground beef in oil, add half of the spice mix, then onion. Add carrots, potato, and tomatoes; simmer.
  3. Finish Sauce: Stir in cilantro-garlic mix and remaining spice mix. Simmer until flavors meld and adjust consistency with water if needed.
  4. Cook Pasta: Boil angel hair pasta until al dente, then drain.
  5. Serve: Pour sauce over pasta and enjoy!

Notes

  • Substitute pasta sauce for diced tomatoes if preferred.
  • Alternative salt options can be used instead of Himalayan pink salt.
  • If desired, cilantro and garlic can be minced together using a knife.
  • For extra flavor, toss cooked pasta in the sauce’s oil and top with shredded cheese.
