This simple chocolate cake is rich, moist, and perfect for satisfying chocolate cravings. Quick, easy, and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually pour in the boiling water, stirring continuously. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay!
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

  • This recipe makes about 12 servings.
  • The cakes can be frosted or served plain.
  • It takes about 10 minutes to prep and 30-35 minutes to bake.
