Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 ½ Cups Old-Fashioned Oats
  • 2 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Cup Light Brown Sugar
  • ½ Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Unsalted Butter, melted
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Tablespoon Vanilla Extract

Add-ins

  • 1 ½ Cups Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips

Topping

  • Coarse Sea Salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Together Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the old-fashioned oats, all-purpose flour, light brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Stir well to evenly distribute all dry ingredients.
  3. Add in the Wet Ingredients: Pour the melted unsalted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract into the dry ingredient mixture. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are fully incorporated and a dough forms.
  4. Add the Chocolate Chips: Gently fold the semi-sweet chocolate chips into the batter, ensuring they are evenly distributed without overmixing.
  5. Bake: Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the surface. Bake in the preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the bars turn a light golden color and are set in the middle.
  6. Sprinkle with Salt, Cool and Slice: Once the bars are out of the oven, immediately sprinkle coarse sea salt over the top. Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan for about 10 minutes, then lift them out using the parchment paper and slice into 24 squares. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Ensure the bars are fully cooled before slicing to achieve clean edges and prevent crumbling.
  • You can substitute semi-sweet chocolate chips with dark or milk chocolate chips according to your preference.
  • For a nuttier texture, consider adding ½ cup of chopped walnuts or pecans along with the chocolate chips.
  • Storing the bars in an airtight container at room temperature will keep them fresh for up to 5 days.
  • Sprinkling sea salt on top adds a wonderful flavor contrast but can be omitted for a sweeter bar.
