No Oven Turkish Bread is a simple and delicious bread that can be made without the need for an oven. It’s soft, fluffy, and perfect for enjoying with dips, soups, or as a side for any meal. The dough is cooked on a stovetop, making it a quick and easy option for homemade bread without the hassle of baking.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons dry yeast

¾ cup warm water

1 tablespoon olive oil (plus extra for brushing)

1 teaspoon baking powder

Optional: Sesame seeds or nigella seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and dry yeast. Stir and let sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, and mix until the dough comes together.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp towel and let it rest for 30 minutes to rise.
  5. After the dough has risen, divide it into 4 equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.
  6. Roll out each dough ball into a flat, round disc, about 6-8 inches in diameter.
  7. Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease with olive oil.
  8. Cook each dough disc in the skillet for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown and puffed up.
  9. Remove from the skillet and brush with a little more olive oil. Optionally, sprinkle with sesame seeds or nigella seeds.
  10. Serve warm with your favorite dips or as a side dish to your meal.

Notes

If you want a slightly thicker bread, roll the dough out less thinly.

You can store leftover bread in an airtight container for up to 2 days, or freeze it for longer storage.

Feel free to add herbs or garlic powder to the dough for extra flavor.
