This Microwave Apple Crisp in a Mug is a quick and easy single-serving dessert that combines tender cinnamon-spiced apples with a buttery oatmeal crisp topping. Perfect for a cozy fall treat or whenever you want a warm, comforting dessert in minutes.

Ingredients

Apple Filling

  • 1 small apple (any variety), peeled and sliced thin
  • 1/2 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon flour

Crisp Topping

  • 2 tablespoons softened butter (not melted)
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 3 tablespoons old fashioned oats
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Prepare Apple Filling: In a small bowl, combine the peeled and thinly sliced apple with melted butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, and flour. Stir well to coat all the apple slices evenly with the mixture.
  2. Make Crisp Topping: In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, old fashioned oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Add the softened butter and use a fork to gently work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Layer Ingredients: In a microwave-safe mug, bowl, or ramekin, layer half of the apple filling at the bottom. Sprinkle half of the crisp topping evenly over the apples. Add the remaining apple mixture on top, then finish with the remaining crisp topping.
  4. Microwave Cook: Place the assembled mug in the microwave and cook on high for 3 minutes. Cooking times may vary slightly depending on your microwave, so check that the apples are tender and the topping is set.
  5. Serve Warm: Carefully remove the mug from the microwave (it will be hot). Serve immediately while warm, optionally topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.

Notes

  • Use any apple variety you prefer; sweeter apples like Fuji or Honeycrisp work well.
  • Ensure butter for the topping is softened but not melted to help create a crumbly texture.
  • Adjust microwave time if needed based on your appliance’s wattage.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour.
  • Adding a small pinch of nutmeg or cloves to the apple filling can enhance the flavor.
