Perfect as a warm appetizer served alongside crackers or pita chips.

Ingredients

Cheese

  • 8 ounces feta cheese

For Baking

  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons hot honey

For Garnish

  • Fresh thyme, for garnish
  • Pink peppercorns, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C) to prepare for baking the feta cheese.
  2. Prepare Feta: Pat the feta cheese dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture, ensuring it bakes evenly.
  3. Arrange Feta: Place the dried feta in a baking dish or a small cast iron pan. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil evenly over the top of the cheese.
  4. Bake Feta: Bake the feta in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes until it starts to soften but has not fully melted.
  5. Broil with Hot Honey: Remove the baking dish from the oven and switch the oven setting to broil on high. Drizzle 3 tablespoons of hot honey over the feta. Return it to the top rack of the oven and broil for 5 to 6 minutes, or until the honey caramelizes and the top of the feta begins to brown.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Carefully remove the feta from the oven and garnish with fresh thyme leaves and optional pink peppercorns. Serve warm with crackers or pita chips and enjoy this sweet, spicy, and creamy appetizer.

Notes

  • Patting the feta dry helps prevent excess moisture, giving it a better texture when baked.
  • If you don’t have hot honey, you can mix regular honey with a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili flakes.
  • Use a small cast iron pan or any oven-safe baking dish for best results.
  • Watch closely while broiling to avoid burning the honey.
  • Serve immediately for the best taste and texture.
