Whether served hot or iced, it’s a delicious fusion of flavors that’s easy to prepare in just 20 minutes.

Ingredients

Banana Bread Syrup

  • 1 large ripe banana, mashed
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • ⅓ cup maple syrup
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Banana Matcha Latte

  • 3 ounces water (cold or hot)
  • 1 teaspoon matcha powder
  • – ½ cup milk of choice
  • 1-2 tablespoons of the banana bread syrup
  • Ice (optional, if serving cold)

Instructions

  1. Make the Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine the mashed banana, 1 ½ cups water, maple syrup, and cinnamon sticks. This mixture forms the base of the banana bread syrup.
  2. Boil and Simmer: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking and to blend the flavors.
  3. Add Vanilla and Strain: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into an airtight glass container, pressing lightly to extract the syrup while leaving solids behind. Refrigerate and store for up to 5 to 7 days.
  4. Prepare Matcha: In a small glass or bowl, add 3 ounces of water (either cold or hot depending on preference). Spoon the matcha powder through a fine mesh sieve into the water to break up any clumps.
  5. Whisk Matcha: Whisk the matcha powder into the water using a front-to-back motion until the liquid becomes slightly frothy on top, ensuring smoothness and aeration.
  6. Assemble the Latte: Fill your serving glass with ice if you prefer a cold latte. Pour the whisked matcha over the ice or directly into the glass if serving hot. Top with ⅓ to ½ cup of your preferred milk.
  7. Add Banana Syrup and Serve: Stir in 1 to 2 tablespoons of the homemade banana bread syrup to taste. Sip and enjoy the creamy, naturally sweetened banana matcha latte!

Notes

  • The banana bread syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • You can adjust the amount of banana syrup to suit your preferred sweetness level.
  • Use any milk you like, such as dairy, almond, oat, or soy milk.
  • For a hot latte, use hot water when whisking the matcha and skip the ice.
  • Ensuring the matcha powder is sifted before whisking helps prevent clumps and results in a smoother drink.
