These Greek Yogurt Bagels are a simple, quick, and delicious homemade bagel recipe made with just five ingredients. Soft, fluffy, and slightly tangy from the yogurt, they require no yeast or boiling and are perfect for a satisfying breakfast or snack.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup + 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour (5.6 ounces), plus more for dusting
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (any fat percentage)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

Toppings (Optional)

  • Everything bagel seasoning
  • Sesame seeds
  • Onion flakes
  • Poppy seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare baking sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt until thoroughly combined.
  3. Add yogurt and form dough: Add the Greek yogurt to the dry ingredients and stir with a spatula until it begins to come together. Then, use your hands to knead the dough about 20 times until a smooth ball forms. The dough should be firm but not sticky. Cover it with a towel and let it rest for 10 minutes to hydrate.
  4. Shape the bagels: Lightly flour your countertop, transfer the rested dough onto it, and roll into a log. Cut the log into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope, then form each rope into a bagel shape by connecting the ends firmly. Place each shaped bagel onto the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Apply egg wash and add toppings: Whisk the egg in a small bowl. Using a pastry brush, generously brush the tops of the bagels with the beaten egg. Sprinkle with your choice of everything bagel seasoning, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, onion flakes, or leave plain.
  6. Bake the bagels: Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until the bagels are golden brown and puffy on top.
  7. Cool before serving: Remove the bagels from the oven and allow them to rest on the baking sheet for 15 minutes to cool slightly. This resting step is important for perfect texture. Slice, spread with your favorite toppings, and enjoy!

Notes

  • The dough consistency should be firm but not sticky; add small amounts of flour if too sticky or a touch of yogurt if too dry.
  • Resting the dough for 10 minutes improves texture and makes shaping easier.
  • Do not skip the 15-minute cooling after baking; it helps the bagels set and makes slicing easier.
  • You can substitute gluten-free flour to make this recipe gluten-free.
  • The egg wash helps achieve a shiny, golden crust but can be omitted for a vegan-friendly top if desired (use milk alternative or skip).
  • Feel free to customize toppings according to your preference or eat plain.
