Funnel cake bites are bite-sized, crispy, and golden fried treats, dusted with powdered sugar. They offer the indulgent taste of funnel cakes without the mess, perfect for fairs or a sweet snack at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until everything is well combined into a smooth batter.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium heat, ensuring it’s hot enough for frying (about 350°F).
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, making sure they’re not overcrowded, and fry them for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, flipping as needed.
  6. Once the funnel cake bites are golden and crispy, use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  7. Dust the funnel cake bites with powdered sugar before serving and enjoy!

Notes

  • These funnel cake bites can be made ahead by preparing the batter and refrigerating it for up to a day. Fry just before serving to maintain their crispy texture.
  • Leftover funnel cake bites can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for 1-2 days.
  • For gluten-free funnel cake bites, substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend.
  • If you don’t want to fry, you can bake them in the oven at 375°F for 10-12 minutes, though the texture will be different.
