Funnel Cake Bites are a fun, bite-sized version of the classic funnel cake. These crispy, golden pieces of fried dough are dusted with powdered sugar, offering the same delicious flavor and texture as traditional funnel cake but with less mess and hassle.

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 large egg

3/4 cup milk

2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the egg, milk, and vanilla extract, and stir until a smooth batter forms.
  2. Heat about 2 cups of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Drop a small amount of batter into the oil to check the temperature; if it sizzles and floats, the oil is ready.
  3. Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop small spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, ensuring they are spaced out to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes, turning halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove them from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  4. Once the funnel cake bites have cooled slightly, generously dust them with powdered sugar. You can also toss them in a bowl with powdered sugar for even coverage.
  5. Serve the funnel cake bites warm, and enjoy with a dipping sauce like chocolate, caramel, or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

For a spiced twist, toss the funnel cake bites in cinnamon sugar instead of powdered sugar.

Serve with a variety of dipping sauces such as chocolate, caramel, or fruit jams for added sweetness.

Add fresh berries or fruit preserves on top for a fruity touch.

For a richer flavor, use brioche bread or even a bit of cocoa powder in the batter for chocolate funnel cake bites.
