Frosted Coffee Brownies offer a delightful twist on traditional brownies by infusing them with the rich and bold flavor of coffee. These brownies are soft, fudgy, and topped with a creamy coffee-infused frosting that adds a layer of indulgence. Perfect for coffee lovers or anyone who enjoys a decadent treat, these brownies are ideal for any occasion, from afternoon snacks to evening desserts.

Ingredients

For the brownies:

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

½ cup all-purpose flour

¼ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon instant coffee granules (optional but recommended for extra coffee flavor)

½ cup semisweet chocolate chips (optional for extra richness)

For the coffee frosting:

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 ½ cups powdered sugar

2 tablespoons brewed coffee (cooled)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder (optional, for a mocha-flavored frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch square baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar. Whisk until smooth, then add the eggs and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and instant coffee granules.
  4. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. If using, fold in the semisweet chocolate chips for added richness.
  6. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread it out evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).
  7. Let the brownies cool in the pan on a wire rack before frosting.
  8. For the frosting, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  9. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating until smooth.
  10. Mix in the brewed coffee, vanilla extract, and cocoa powder (if using). Continue to beat until the frosting is creamy and smooth.
  11. Once the brownies have cooled, spread the coffee frosting evenly over the top.

Notes

For a stronger coffee flavor, substitute the brewed coffee with espresso or instant espresso powder.

For a mocha frosting, add a bit more cocoa powder to the frosting.

These brownies are rich on their own, but adding chocolate chips to the frosting can intensify the flavor.
