Custard Oatmeal is a comforting and indulgent twist on traditional oatmeal. With a creamy, custard-like texture and a rich, smooth flavor, this oatmeal is the perfect way to start your day with something both delicious and satisfying. The combination of eggs, milk, and a touch of sweetness creates a luscious breakfast that feels like a treat, yet is packed with wholesome ingredients.

Ingredients

½ cup rolled oats

1 cup whole milk (or milk of choice)

1 large egg

1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey

¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

1 tablespoon butter or coconut oil (optional, for added richness)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the rolled oats, milk, and a pinch of salt. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture begins to simmer.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg with the maple syrup (or honey) and vanilla extract.
  3. Once the oatmeal is simmering, reduce the heat to low. Gradually pour the egg mixture into the oatmeal, stirring constantly to prevent the egg from scrambling.
  4. Continue cooking on low heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the oatmeal reaches a custard-like consistency.
  5. If desired, stir in butter or coconut oil for extra richness.
  6. Once the oatmeal is thick and creamy, remove it from the heat. Serve hot with your favorite toppings.

Notes

Custard oatmeal is best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat with a splash of milk or water.

If using instant oats, the texture will be softer compared to rolled oats.

For a vegan option, use coconut milk or almond milk and omit butter.

Adjust sweetness by adding more or less sweetener to taste.
