Chocolate Tiramisu is a delightful twist on the classic Italian dessert, blending rich chocolate with the traditional coffee and cream layers. This decadent dessert layers soft, coffee-soaked ladyfingers with a creamy, velvety chocolate mascarpone filling and is topped off with a dusting of cocoa powder.

Ingredients

For the chocolate mascarpone filling:

8 oz mascarpone cheese, softened

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

4 oz semi-sweet chocolate, melted

1 tsp vanilla extract

For the coffee layer:

1 1/2 cups strong brewed coffee, cooled

2 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional)

For assembly:

1 package ladyfingers (about 24 pieces)

Cocoa powder for dusting (optional)

Dark chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chocolate mascarpone filling: Whisk together mascarpone, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder until smooth. Whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture, then add the melted chocolate and stir until smooth.
  2. Prepare the coffee layer: Brew coffee and let it cool to room temperature. Add coffee liqueur if desired and stir.
  3. Assemble the tiramisu: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture and layer them in the bottom of a dish. Spread half of the chocolate mascarpone filling over the ladyfingers. Repeat the process with another layer of ladyfingers and the remaining chocolate mascarpone filling.
  4. Chill: Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.
  5. Serve: Dust with cocoa powder and garnish with dark chocolate shavings before serving.

Notes

For extra chocolate flavor, add a tablespoon of chocolate liqueur to the coffee mixture.

To make a white chocolate version, substitute semi-sweet chocolate with melted white chocolate.

Feel free to add fresh raspberries or strawberries for a fruity twist.
