Cheese Sticks are a crispy, golden, and gooey snack made with pastry dough and melted cheese. Whether served as an appetizer or a quick snack, these cheese sticks are sure to please with their satisfying crunch and irresistible cheesy filling.

Ingredients

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or a combination of your favorite melting cheeses)

1 package of puff pastry (or phyllo dough, if preferred)

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)

1 egg (for egg wash)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh herbs or garlic powder for extra flavor (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. If using puff pastry, roll it out on a flat surface to your desired thickness. For phyllo dough, layer two sheets and brush lightly with melted butter.
  3. Sprinkle a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese (or your chosen cheese) on top of the pastry.
  4. Optionally, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on the pastry for added flavor.
  5. Roll up the pastry tightly, ensuring the cheese is well enclosed. Trim the ends if necessary.
  6. Cut the rolled pastry into 1-inch thick pieces and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Beat the egg and brush the egg wash over each piece to create a golden, glossy finish.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is fully melted inside.
  9. Once done, remove from the oven and let the cheese sticks cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, add fresh or dried herbs like rosemary, thyme, or oregano to the cheese before rolling.

For a spicy kick, add a pinch of chili powder or red pepper flakes to the cheese mixture.

For a cheesy twist, mix shredded cheddar cheese with the mozzarella for a richer flavor.

Feel free to add veggies like spinach or mushrooms for a delicious variation.
