This rich and creamy Cajun Alfredo Sauce combines the smoky, spicy flavors of Cajun seasoning with classic Alfredo creaminess. Enhanced with a touch of fresh lemon zest, this sauce is perfect for pasta but equally delicious spooned over steamed vegetables or grilled fish. Using either a homemade Cajun seasoning blend or a store-bought mix, this sauce offers a fresh, flavorful twist on traditional Alfredo.

Ingredients

Cajun Alfredo Sauce

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 Tablespoons Cajun seasoning (homemade or store-bought)
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt (omit if seasoning contains salt)
  • 1¾ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • Zest of 1 lemon

Homemade Cajun Seasoning

  • 3 Tablespoons smoked paprika
  • 1 Tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 Tablespoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried basil

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter: In a large skillet over low heat, melt ½ cup of unsalted butter. Cook just until melted and beginning to froth, indicated by small white bubbles appearing on top.
  2. Add cream and seasoning: Stir in 1 ½ cups of heavy cream and 2 tablespoons of Cajun seasoning. If your seasoning blend does not include salt, add ½ teaspoon kosher salt. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook on low heat for 5 to 6 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  3. Finish the sauce: Remove the skillet from heat and add the zest of one lemon. Gradually sprinkle in 1¾ cups of freshly grated parmesan cheese, stirring constantly until the cheese has fully melted and the sauce is smooth. Adjust salt to taste if needed.
  4. Serve: Toss the sauce with cooked pasta to coat evenly, or spoon over steamed vegetables or grilled fish as desired. Serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • For best flavor, freshly grate the parmesan cheese rather than using pre-grated varieties.
  • The homemade Cajun seasoning recipe provides a more balanced, fresh spice blend but store-bought seasoning can be used as a convenient shortcut.
  • If using store-bought Cajun seasoning containing salt, omit the additional kosher salt to avoid over-salting.
  • This sauce pairs excellently with fettuccine or linguine pasta as well as roasted or steamed vegetables.
