Salisbury Steak is a comforting dish of seasoned beef patties simmered in a rich onion and mushroom gravy, perfect for a cozy family dinner or a hearty meal any day of the week.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20)

1/4 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup milk

1/4 small onion, finely chopped

1 large egg

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp black pepper

1/4 tsp salt

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp butter

1/2 small onion, thinly sliced

1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)

1 cup beef broth

1/2 cup water

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp flour

1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, pepper, and salt. Form into 4 oval patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Brown patties on both sides for 3-4 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter. Sauté sliced onions for 2-3 minutes. Add mushrooms and cook for another 3 minutes if using.
  4. Sprinkle flour over onions and cook for 1-2 minutes. Gradually stir in beef broth and water. Add Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard (if using), salt, and pepper.
  5. Return patties to the skillet. Spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer on low heat for 10-12 minutes until patties are cooked through and gravy is thickened.
  6. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables.

Notes

Add minced garlic for more flavor.
