Banana Pudding is a classic Southern dessert that combines layers of creamy vanilla pudding, sweet banana slices, and crunchy Nilla wafers. This no-bake dessert is easy to make and loved by all ages, making it the perfect treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

For the pudding:

1 (5 oz) package instant vanilla pudding mix

3 1/2 cups cold milk

1 (8 oz) container whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed

1 tsp vanilla extract

For assembly:

45 ripe bananas, sliced

1 box Nilla wafers (about 60 wafers)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pudding: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk for 2 minutes until it begins to thicken. Gently fold in the whipped topping and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well-combined. Set aside.
  2. Assemble the pudding: In a 9×13-inch dish or large trifle bowl, arrange a layer of Nilla wafers on the bottom. Add a layer of sliced bananas on top of the wafers. Spoon half of the pudding mixture over the bananas, spreading it evenly to cover. Repeat the layers with another round of wafers, bananas, and the remaining pudding mixture.
  3. Top the pudding: Finish by arranging a few more Nilla wafers on top of the pudding for decoration. Optionally, you can garnish with a few banana slices as well.
  4. Chill: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results. This allows the flavors to meld together and the wafers to soften.
  5. Serve: Once chilled, serve the Banana Pudding chilled and enjoy!

Notes

Add a caramel layer between the pudding layers for a caramel banana twist.

For a chocolate variation, use chocolate pudding or sprinkle mini chocolate chips on top.

To make it dairy-free, substitute with coconut whipped cream and non-dairy milk.
