Air Fryer Fried Pickles are a healthier alternative to deep-fried pickles, made with a crispy breadcrumb coating and cooked in the air fryer for a lighter, yet equally delicious, crunch. Perfect for snacking or as an appetizer, they are paired with your favorite dipping sauce.

Ingredients

1 jar of pickle spears or pickle chips (about 12 oz)

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon paprika

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

2 large eggs

1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

Cooking spray or olive oil spray

Instructions

  1. Drain the pickle spears or pickle chips thoroughly and pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. Set up a breading station: In one shallow bowl, whisk together flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. In another shallow bowl, beat the eggs. In a third shallow bowl, combine panko breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese.
  3. Dip each pickle in the flour mixture, then the egg, and finally coat it in the panko-Parmesan mixture, ensuring they are well-coated in each step.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 5 minutes.
  5. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or olive oil spray. Place the breaded pickles in a single layer in the basket, working in batches if necessary.
  6. Air fry the pickles for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove the fried pickles from the air fryer and serve with your favorite dipping sauce like ranch or spicy mayo.

Notes

For extra spice, add more cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the egg mixture.

For a cheesy twist, mix shredded cheddar with the panko breadcrumbs.

For a sweet-spicy kick, dip fried pickles in a sweet and spicy sauce like sriracha honey.

Gluten-free option: Use gluten-free flour and panko breadcrumbs.
